The basic rules for installation of chimneys
- Identification of the chimney diameter is held under the tables calculated depending on the type of boiler and its power or the manufacturer's recommendations (if any). The height and offset axis of the flue exit from the boiler is determined according to the design.
- At the foot the chimney should be based on the lower or intermediate base (wall mounting with triangular cantilever supports).
- Unloading platforms should be installed every 5 m on the vertical sections for discharging flue.
- Do not place the joint pipe directly at the place of overlap. It should be either lower or higher.
- It is recommended to install wall collars on vertical wall every 2.5m, on horizontal or sloping areas - every 1.5m. They also set the knee before and directly after it.
- It is not permitted to load outlets or ends of inclined areas, therefore additional intermediate fasteners should be mounted. Deviation from vertical chimneys to 30º with deviation aside to 1m is allowed under condition of ensuring that the cross-sectional area of the chimney sloping areas is not less then crossing the vertical sections.
- The horizontal sections that should not exaggerate 2 meters required slope 20mm for each meter of pipe. Off-take pipe that connects the heating device with chimney should have vertical section. The length of the vertical section of the connecting pipe from the bottom of the off-take nozzle of heating device to the axis of pipe horizontal section should be at least 0.5 m.
- No more than three turns with a radius of curvature of not less than the diameter of the pipe are allowed at the off-take pipes.
- In places where the chimney passes through the roof such an element as master flash is provided. It is a cone pipe with welded sheet, which is designed for the corresponding angle of a roof: 0-15º, 15-30º or 30-45º.
- Double wall chimney ends with a cone at the top. According to ДБН В.2.5-20-2001 in Ukraine rain caps and other endings to the flue gas boiler installation are NOT allowed.
- To drain condensate the chimney should be equipped with inspection hatch for cleaning and condensate trap. The lower part of the chimney – inspection tee or tee with condensate trap or cap - should be in the place accessible for maintenance and be safe for the people.
- If the chimney rises more than 2 meters above the roof, additional braces should be used.
- When installing the chimney in shaft or in brick channel, be aware that it is recommended to install every 3 meters a stabilizing bracket for chimney that provides its vertical mobility during the operation and centers the chimney in the shaft.

You must comply with fire safety rules:
- When passing through insulated pipes, wooden floors, it is necessary to lay additional insulation, put asbestos cement sheet, thickness of 10mm, with a metal sleeve and the top and bottom of the surface;
- The minimum distance to wooden surfaces in the double wall chimneys - 200mm, the single wall - 500mm;
- The distance from the connecting pipe to overlap of non-combustible materials is allowed not less than 50 mm, and of combustible materials - no less than 250mm.
- Reducing the distance from 250 to 100 mm, is allowed provided protection of combustible structures with steel plates on asbestos sheet with a minimum thickness of 3 mm;
- Chimney proximity to flammable materials and substances is not permitted. In such places, the chimney should be further insulated with brickwork;
- The boilers that operate on gas fuel, and the chimneys of them, should provide explosive valves. Number of explosive valves, their location and size should be determined by the engineering organization.
- Before testing the chimney make sure that the there are no extra things or parts of the package inside of the chimney. Preliminary testing of the chimney can be hold with the famous old way - with the lit paper.
- To support cost-saving and smooth operation of the boiler you should regularly inspect and clean the chimney of soot and debris. Cleaning should be conducted by a specialist at least 2 times a year.
